Dressed to Impress

May 3, 2025 — November 2, 2025
South Gallery

From proms to weddings to nights on the town, an eye-catching outfit is simply a must for a special event. Much like social media today, magazines and fashion plates from the 1870s to the 1960s suggested how women could stay stylish. Historical figures like Queen Victoria, Coco Chanel, and Jaqueline Onassis Kennedy became fashion icons, shaping the silhouettes of their time. While expensive designer clothing is only accessible to a few, people throughout history have found ways to mimic high-end fashions for a fraction of the price.

Travel through different eras to see how women dressed to impress for special occasions, exploring nearly 100 years of captivating fashion from the Fairfield Museum’s collection.
