Lunar New Year Celebration

Families and friends of all ages are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Learn more about the Year of the Dragon and how people celebrate, explore “Creating Community,” the Fairfield Museum’s newly renovated exhibition, and join us for a lion dance, storytime with the Fairfield Public Library, live animals from Earthplace, a martial arts demonstration, a paper dragon craft, and many more hands-on activities.

Ongoing Events

• Drop-in Craft: Lunar New Year Banners – Learn about these lucky decorations that feature wishes for good luck. Try your hand at Chinese calligraphy and make your own banner to take home.
• Drop-in Craft: Make a Toy Dumpling – Learn the art of folding dumplings and use clay to make a toy version to take home.
• Drop-in Craft: Make a Paper Dragon – Create your own paper dragon using your imagination!
• Drop in Craft: Festive Paper Lanterns – Design your own festive paper lantern take home.
• Meet Animals from the Zodiac! – 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. Meet the dragon-like Smaug, a spiny-tailed lizard, a rabbit, and a snake from Earthplace, a non-profit based in Westport.
• Try a Dumpling from Grumpy Dumpling Co.! – 1 per person, while supplies last

• Lion Dance – Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with a traditional lion dance featuring The Scholar’s Martial Hall at the Fairfield Museum.

10:30 am

• Storytime with Fairfield Public Library – Families with children ages 3+ can join us for a special reading of Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon.

11 am

• Classical Dance Performance featuring Li-Garden Dance Company – Enjoy a special classical Chinese dance performance featuring dancers using silky, floral umbrellas!

11:30 am & 12:30 pm

• Martial Arts Demonstration – Enjoy a demonstration of martial arts from The Scholar’s Martial Hall.
