About the Performer
Brian Q. Torff has travelled many miles, from Illinois blues and rock bands to backing Frank Sinatra and playing blistering bass solos with jazz pianist George Shearing at the White House. What makes Torff unique is his songwriting, laced with vocals, harmonica, slide guitar, and vintage keyboards. Born in Chicago, he plays a modern blues-soaked style influenced by Mose Allison and driven by drum machines as featured on his album Run with Scissors. Torff has performed at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Royal Albert Hall, the NBC Tonight show, a CBS national holiday special, and PBS. Accompanying Torff are Chris Morrison (guitar), Fuzz Sangiovanni (guitar), Jarryd Torff (tenor sax), and Ryan Sands (drums).
Copies of Brian Q. Torff’s new book Seize the Beat: The Evolution of American Music will be available for sale during the concert.
Jazz Fridays at the Fairfield Museum is made possible by the generous support of Alan and Sylvia Neigher, Bank of America, WSHU, and the CT Arts Endowment Program.
