Join us for a special roundtable discussion to learn more about the business and creative aspects of photography featuring esteemed photographers and photo editors: Maureen Cavanagh, Photo Editor, The New York Times; David Gunn, local freelance photographer; Jade-Snow Joachim, Director of Photography, POLITICO; and Brad Smith, Vice President for Photography, WWE.

About the Speakers
Maureen Cavanagh
Maureen Cavanagh is a long time photo editor currently working at The New York Times. She was the Creative Director of The Players’ Tribune and former Deputy photo editor at Sports Illustrated Magazine. Cavanagh is a two-time POY award winner for photo editing, has been a Producer at the Eddie Adams Workshop and runs the “Women in Sports Photography” mentorship program & Instagram account. She is honored to be a Board Member of the Doug Pensinger Photography Fund which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing career development opportunities to young photographers. Cavanagh has a Bachelor’s degree in photojournalism from Newhouse at Syracuse University and a Master’s degree in Journalism from Columbia University, Graduate School of Journalism. She and her husband have 4 children, and they live in Fairfield, CT.
David Gunn
David Gunn began his career in photojournalism in 1988 at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, where he learned to craft a beautiful story. Today, he works as a freelance photographer for a variety of clients, including WWE, creating captivating image that informs and excites viewers. His work at the core is all about storytelling and connecting thoughts and ideas.
Jade-Snow Joachim
Jade-Snow Joachim is an award-winning photo editor with over 20 years of experience working at preeminent publications. She joined POLITICO as the Director of Photography in 2022. Previously, she was on staff at The New York Times, Washington Post and Bloomberg News. Jade-Snow has worked across the newsroom, overseeing the visual report for sports, business, arts, politics, international and national news. She has managed live edits and coordinated photographer teams for presidential nominating conventions, State of the Union addresses, Presidential Inaugurations, Olympics, World Series and the Tony Awards. She lives near New York City with her journalist husband, David and their two children. In her free time, Jade-Snow volunteers in her community as her daughter’s Brownie Girl Scout leader and as a past president of the Junior League of Pelham. She recently picked up tennis and loves taking in a day game at Yankee Stadium.
Brad Smith
Brad Smith is an award-winning photo editor with over 35 years of experience in visual storytelling. He’s worked in the sports industry as Director of Photography at Time Inc. Sports Publications, twice garnering Sports Illustrated the Henry Luce Award for Magazine Cover of the Year, and as Senior Sports Photo Editor at The New York Times, receiving First Place in Photo Editing for Picture of the Year (POY) on several occasions. He’s managed live edits for some of the most visually stimulating sports events in the world, coordinating and editing photography for numerous Olympics, Super Bowls, World Series, and Final Fours. He has also delivered historical presidential moments as the Associate Director of Photography for the White House during the Clinton administration, and covered events with unparalleled import, such as 9/11. Currently he’s the Vice President for Photography for the WWE, a massive entertainment company, overseeing the global photography division.
