After his Cooper Union address in February 1860, Abraham Lincoln made a whirlwind tour of Connecticut ostensibly to support William Buckingham’s bid for reelection for Governor of Connecticut. In reality, Lincoln was engaged in a stealth campaign to secure the Republican nomination for President of the United States. On Lincoln’s birthday, join Dale Plummer, Norwich City Historian, to learn more about Lincoln’s travels through Connecticut.
Free with Museum admission. Snacks and refreshments provided.
About the Speaker
Dale Plummer has been Norwich’s City History for 35 years. In 2011, he was chair of the city’s Emancipation Proclamation Commemoration Committee. The committee commissioned the casting of a 250-pound bronze bell by Verdin Co. at the waterfront park in honor of the Proclamation. Mr. Plummer has a MA in History from the University of Connecticut and has been active in historic preservation in New London and Norwich. He lives in the former Wauregan Hotel, which he helped save from the wrecking ball, and where Abraham Lincoln stayed on March 9, 1860.
