In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, families and friends of all ages are invited to a day celebrating different cultures and communities in Fairfield and Connecticut. Explore “Creating Community,” the Fairfield Museum’s newly renovated exhibition, and join us for storytelling with Darlene Kascak from the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, a guided tree walk, a family memory keepsake craft, a mozzarella-making demonstration, and more hands-on activities.

Ongoing Events

  • Drop-in Craft: Paper Plum Blossom Branch – Create your own paper plum blossom branch to take home. Plum blossoms are commonly used as decorations for the Lunar New Year, representing resilience as they often bloom in the midst of winter.
  • Drop-in Craft: Family Photo Keepsakes – Bring in copies or originals of your family photos and memorabilia to create keepsakes you can take home.
  • Discover The Institute for American Indian Studies – Explore Native American objects and artifacts while learning more about The Institute for American Indian Studies (based in Washington, CT), which preserves and educates through discovery and creativity the diverse traditions, vitality and knowledge of Native American cultures.
  • Learn More about the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe – Learn more about the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe and meet Clan Mother Shoran Waupatukuay Piper.

  • Storytelling featuring Darlene Kascak – Join us for special storytelling sessions with Darlene Kascak, Education Director at The Institute for American Indian Studies and is an active member of The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation and The Schaghticoke Women’s Traditional Council.

 

11 am-12 pm

  • Mozzarella-Making Demonstration – Dominic Giresi of Italian Kitchen in Fairfield will demonstrate how to make mozzarella.

 

12 pm

  • Guided Tree Walk – Enjoy a special tree walk on the Museum Commons, learning how to identify trees on the Museum Commons and exploring the significance of certain trees for different cultures. The Guided Tree Walk is weather dependent.
